I find it kind of unsettling that the best band was Amazing Technicolor Show Choir band. I was at the prelims, and I saw at least 5 members of their band that were adults (they had grey hair and beards). I don't mind them playing for the group whose performance was excellent, but I don't think they should have been eligible for best band when the other schools appeared to only be using student bands.

MZ not making finals is wild. Especially bc their visual and choreo is typically miles ahead of groups. Groups like cg fc John Burroughs. But everyone has an off day. I’ve experienced a season of missing 2 finals 3 in 3 years tho. All 3 shocking to us. Made. Is a closer choir

Very shocking to me . I’ve seen MZ live 3 times this year and always thought they were near the top. Judge’s thought different. Missed finals here and Chesterton and sixth at EPG. Maybe a different show to the judges way in back.

I watched from near the judges area. I'd have put them equal with Lafayette Jefferson, but maybe losing the tiebreaker to LFJ due to needing so long to set up their extensive set pieces and riser levels? Could it have been a time penalty?

Those are how he personally has it. Similar to predictions in that it’s his opinion and not the result, but not guessing how the judges are going to see these groups.

I believe there are still some YouTube videos up about how they prepare the gym for this competition. It’s honestly impressive how they do it. I’m really curious to know how Los Alamitos got that enormous backdrop on stage because the doors there were not large. Don’t think Midwest groups typically have such enormous sets

You have attended there my good friend. Remember FDC? Big sets are a part of who they are! Mr. Miller and his crew have the best gymnasium performance space I have encountered - and it is not even close. I hope all of these ensembles have an amazing experience! But I also hope they are done at night, and not in the morning! :}
